Biographical Information on the Port & Harbour:
The Port of Shelburne, Shelburne Marine Terminal (SMT), is owned and operated by the Town of Shelburne. The Town created the Shelburne Port Authority (SPA) to administer the terminal and related activity. The Shelburne Port Authority is currently governed by a Board of Directors comprised of four councillors from the Town of Shelburne and one councillor from the Municipality. The Chair of the Board is Mayor Alan Delaney. The day to day management of the facility is provided by the Port Manager, Don Faye. Mr. Faye also has the responsibility as the Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO) of the Shelburne Port Authority. The Town of Shelburne currently provides the necessary administrative support for the Port’s activities.
The SMT was constructed in two phases: the first pier was built in 1958 and the second phase, the development of the “T” shaped structure, was constructed in 1965. The stem section is approximately 130 meters long and 15 meters wide. The Tee section is approximately 163 meters in length and 20 meters wide and has light standards on its northern edge. The depth at the wharf (surveyed in 2008 by CHS) 9.5m > 10.5 m.
The Shelburne Marine Terminal provides wharf and cargo handling facilities for a number of vessels carrying diverse cargoes such as containers, bulk commodities and fish products. In addition to the handling of a number of vessels, the SPA leases land and virtually all the western inner basin to Continental Seafoods (a subsidiary of Clearwater). This company also uses the outer berth from time to time to service their vessels.
